Nuns to Battle it out in Miss Sister Pageant

August 25, 2008

In a desperate bid to modernize the church, an Italian Catholic priest is organizing an online beauty pageant for nuns. Yes, nuns. The contest being dubbed “Miss Sister 2008” will start in September on a yet-to-be launched blog run by organizer Reverend Antoni Rungi, who apparently sees himself as the Donald Trump of Catholicism. It will allow “nuns from around the world a chance to showcase their work and their image.”  Check out some possible entrants after the jump...To enter, wannabe model nuns will need to submit a photo to Rev. Rungi’s website and fill out a profile about their life and work. The Reverend says it is up to them whether they choose to pose with a traditional veil or with their heads covered. Rungi told the AP that swimsuits will not be a part of the contest, stating that “being ugly is not a requirement for becoming a nun. External beauty is gift from God, and we mustn't hide it.”

He is expecting 1000 candidates to submit. He will then open it up to the people who will have a month to vote and decide who will reign as 2008’s Miss Sister.

The whole thing sounds like the plot outline for the third installment of the Whoopi Goldberg’s nun franchise Sister Act.  But then again, repressed Catholic school girls are great, so who knows what these broads have brewing underneath their habits?

UPDATE 08/26/08: It's been canceled . What's a nun to do?
