The Incredibly Sad Tale of Jessica Simpson's Engagement
Jessica Simpson’s engagement is starting to reek of desperation. Not only does it come hot on the heels of ex-husband Nick Lachey’s engagement to super hottie Vanessa Minnillo, Jessica reportedly had to purchase her own engagement ring. Is that sad or what?
Over the weekend ex-NFL tight-end Eric Johnson asked Jessica Simpson to be his wife. Or did he? The story goes that he went down on one knee and presented her with a $100,000 dollar ruby and diamond ring. Now it’s being reported that there’s no way Johnson could afford such a ring and that Simpson in fact purchased it herself.

The sight of Jessica Simpson’s $100,000 ruby-and-diamond Neil Lane engagement ring alone is enough to make you gasp, but the fact that she may have purchased it herself is enough to bring you to tears.
“No way could Eric, who doesn’t have a job at the moment, afford to purchase such an expensive ring,” a friend of Jessica’s tells me. “Yes, he made a little bit of money in the NFL and is from a wealthy family, but unless his parents helped him out, Jessica must have paid for it herself.”
Simpson is apparently so ready to be someone’s wife again that she's forgoing a pre-nup. Those close to her are extremely worried, especially since Lachley walked away with a cool $10 million when they divorced. Friends of the songstress are hoping her manager-father will put his foot down and demand one in order to protect Simpson's $100 million fortune.
