Cramps Frontman Lux Interior R.I.P.

February 5, 2009

Lux Interior, the legendary lead singer of the Cramps, passed away at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, California at 4:30 yesterday morning. He died of an existing heart condition. He was 60 years old.
Born Erick Lee Purkhiser, Interior started the Cramps in 1972 with guitarist and soon-to-be wife Poison Ivy — whom, as legend has it, he picked up as a hitchhiker in California. By 1975, they moved to New York, where they became an integral part of the punk scene surrounding the legendary CBGBs.
