Toyota Unveils New Hybrid "For the 8-bit Generation"

bybradiger   January 11, 2010 at 6:06PM  |  Views: 57

Today at the Detroit Auto Show, Toyota has made it clear that they want to ditch the smug urban hipster vibe of hybrid cars like the Prius. Or, at the very least, give younger drivers a cooler option - and that's where the FT-CH concept comes in.

In Toyota's own words, the concept behind the design of the FT-CH is to "capture the vivid, high-energy appeal of what has come to be called the 8-bit generation. Today, 8-bit is considered a specific retro-style that is embraced by such things as 8-bit genre music and 8-bit inspired art."

So what does all that mean? It means we'll be seeing a hybrid that puts more of an emphasis on style and technology, and should be a good chunk of change cheaper than a Prius. Who knows, maybe it'll even be fun to drive! Dare to dream, people.
