DW Tournament: Round 5

The Deadliest Warrior tournament is nearing the end as this round is basically a quarterfinals round.

Round 5
Only three warriors (Egyptians, Rough Riders & Jaguar) were eliminated in round four, meaning there are still a substantial number of warriors remaining. However, now that the preliminary rounds are over, the tournament will change to single elimination from here on.

This tournament isn't seeded and the competitors aren't locked into place like an NCAA bracket which means the match ups can change from round to round. However, there are two distinct brackets (winner's and loser's) and within each bracket there are two divisions (modern and ancient).

-Loser's Bracket (Modern)
2-1 British Royal Gurkhas (c1984)
-Loser's Bracket (Ancient)
2-1 Mongol Warrior (c1220)
2-1 Japanese Samurai (c1000)
-Winner's Bracket (Modern)
2-1 Boer Commandos (c1898)
2-1 Russian Spetsnaz (c2000)
2-1 Irish Republican Army (c1990)
3-0 U.S. Navy Seals (c1989)
-Winner's Bracket (Ancient)
3-0 Scottish Highlander (1297)
3-0 Persian Immortal (c500 BC)
3-0 Spanish Conquistador (c1520)
2-1 Spartan Warrior (c500 BC)
2-1 European Knight (c1200)
2-1 Apache Warrior (c1800)

-Loser's Bracket
Round 4 was a semi-final round as 3 more warriors were eliminated from the tournament, bringing the tally of defeated contestants up to 15: Yakuza, Maori, Ninja, Gladiator, Mafia, Zhou Warrior, Green Beret, Pirate, Shaolin Monk, Zulu, Taliban, Viking, Egyptians, Rough Rider & Jaguar.

The Loser's bracket is nearing the end with only 3 contestants remaining. The Gurkha are the winners of the Modern division and will be inserted back into the winner's bracket as soon as it has an odd number of warriors. Meanwhile, the Mongols and Samurai will finally fight their long delayed battle to decide who is best in the Ancient division.

British Royal Gurkha Rifles: Winner
Samurai vs. Mongol Warrior: Asia's foremost warriors finally do battle.

-Winner's Bracket
Only one warrior was eliminated in round four, leaving room for the Knight to return from a well earned bye.

10 warriors remain in the winner's bracket, representing the best of the best in this tournament. In the ancient division only one unarmored warrior remains as heavy armor and piercing weapons have dominated the later rounds. The modern division has been all about long range firepower and smart battle tactics, however, due to previous wins over every other competitor left in the tournament it appears that the Navy SEALs only need one victory over the IRA to cruise into the winner's circle.

IRA vs. Navy SEALs: Determined Irish terrorist cell against modern U.S. Special Forces.
Knight vs. Apache:  Medieval tank against Native American scalp hunter.
Immortal vs. Highlander: Persian Imperial Guard against powerful Scottish warrior.
Spetsnaz vs. Boer Commandos: Feared Russian anti-terrorist unit against turn of the century Militia.
Conquistadors vs Spartan: Spanish cavalry against perfect warrior of ancient Greece .
