Games

It’s been a slow spring for great video games, but all that is about to change in May. Kicking off the month are several products that should have cash registers a-ringing. From the creators of Street Fighter and Resident Evil comes Lost Planet 2 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. While this game has a single-player mode, it really shines when four friends are playing together online to take down massive beasts that are most definitely not of this world. The Tony Hawk franchise has really fallen on hard times of late, but EA’s Skate 3 is set to grind the Xbox 360 and PS3 with its incredibly realistic control scheme, expansive options both offline and off, and a lot less resistance than past games in the series. It’s the only legitimate skateboarding game on the market, so if you’re so inclined, grip it and rip it. The Nintendo Wii has been an absolute powerhouse since its launch and pretty much the only thing left is to roll it out in new colors. The first alternate hue—or shade for the anal—is shiny piano black. You can pick it up on Tuesday along with a black Wii remote, Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, and the motion-sensing enhancer, Motion-Plus--all packed into the box for the same price as the old model ($199). In short, if you don’t have a Wii yet, do not buy an old white one as the new black model gives you a lot more bang for your arm-waggling buck.

Edge of Darkness is the film adaptation of the 1985 BBC television series of the same name. It stars Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone and was directed by Martin Campbell. Edge of Darkness follows a detective (Gibson) investigating the murder of his activist daughter (Bojana Novakovic), while uncovering political conspiracies and cover-ups in the process. Gibson is as solid as ever and the story will hook you the second you pop the disc in your player, player.

Sea of Cowards is the second studio album from the all-star rock outfit The Dead Weather. The album was streamed on the band's website recently, via continuous vinyl playback, on April 30th for 24 hours only and the feedback was pretty solid. The Jack White and Alison Mosshart group are brining fans yet another hard-rockin’ alternative LP. Get it, dudes. Rock!
