Bellator Season 11 - Best Submissions

December 22, 2014

Bellator MMA had an unforgettable 2014, bringing in some heavy hitters, discovering some hot prospects, and, of course, putting on exciting fights week after week. With the momentum we've built, you'd better believe we're not planning on slowing down either, with 4 championship fights already scheduled for early 2015.
Our next event comes to you on January 16 and will feature a Featherweight World Championship fight. Champion Patricio Pitbull is scheduled to defend his gold against former champ Daniel Straus. Head to for all the information and tickets for that one.

But for now, let's take a look back at some of the slickest submissions from this past season. Here they are, in chronological order.

Bellator 123 – Cheick Kongo beats Lavar Johnson via Rear Naked Choke.
Though he's better known for his striking, the imposing French heavyweight proved he was also dangerous on the ground. Kongo was able to take advantage of an early mistake by Johnson and patiently improved position throughout the first round, until the opportunity to finish presented itself.

Bellator 124 – Liam McGeary locks on an Inverted Triangle Choke to take out Kelly Anundson.
Liam McGeary proved why he's one of the most exciting young fighters in the Light Heavyweight division this past year, first with knockouts of Mike Mucitelli and Egidijus Valavicius, then this impressive sub over the very tough Kelly Anundson. That makes six Bellator fights and six first-round finishes for McGeary, who will get a shot at Emanuel Newton and the Light Heavyweight Championship on February 27.

Bellator 126 – Brandon Halsey chokes out Alexander Shlemenko to secure the Middleweight Championship.
Brandon "Bull" Halsey took out some tough competition en route to his title shot against the experienced and dangerous Alexander Shlemenko, but didn't waste any time when the fight got underway. It only took 35 seconds for the California native to get under Shlemenko's chin, cinch in the RNC, and leave Arizona as the new Bellator Middleweight Champion.

Bellator 128 – Alexander Sarnavskiy slips the Rear Naked Choke on Dakota Cochrane.
Sarnavskiy applied tight pressure all through this one, separating only long enough to throw the flying knee that set up this finish.

Bellator 130 – Emanuel Newton retains the Light Heavyweight Championship by choking out Linton Vassell.
British Light Heavyweight Linton Vassell set out to capture the Light Heavyweight gold from champion Emanuel Newton. Vassell came in as a heavy underdog, and put up a tough fight, lasting into the fifth round before succumbing to the RNC. Both of these men will return on February 27. Newton, as previously noted, is slated to defend his title against Liam McGeary, while Vassell will take on the battle-tested Sokoudjou.
