Sony Pictures, at the last moment yesterday, made a bid for the rights to the Terminator franchise. Last we heard Lionsgate had the top bid, but that has likely all changed.
Lionsgate had offered $15 million and 5% of future grosses, but who knows what Sony Pictures, a studio with considerably deeper pockets, has offered.
One way or another, it's reassuring that a studio other than Lionsgate could take over. The smaller studio has a track record that smacks of low-brow horror and other low concept fare. If Sony won the rights to the Terminator franchise the future of John Connor might have a ray of hope.
So what do you think? Is this all just abstract financial nonsense, or does it matter who eventually wins the bid for the rights?
