Anonymous is a new historical thriller directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Rhys Ifans and Vanessa Redgrave that tells the in-depth tale about who actually wrote the plays of William Shakespeare. Set against the backdrop of the succession of Queen Elizabeth I (Redgrave) and the Essex Rebellion against her, the new film follows Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford (Ifans), as he attempts to emerge as the true author penning the now-classic plays of William Shakespeare.
