Apple's iPhone 5: Everything You Need to Know and More

Yes! It's finally here, people. Apple just wrapped up talk on the iPhone 5. Here's a quick bullet-point summary.

The New iPhone 5

•Will be priced at $199 for 16GB, $299 for 23GB, $399 for 64 GB

•iPhone 4S at 16GB is now available for $99, iPhone 4 at 8GB is now FREE.

•Pre-orders start on September 14th. That's this Friday. Ships September 21st.


•4" screen (a half-inch increase)

•112 grams (20% lighter than the iPhone 4)

•Size increase adds 5th row of icons, allows more email/events to be displayed in calendar

•LTE and 4G wireless/cellular network compatibility

•Also added HSPA+ and DC-HSPDA

•Single chip for voice and data, single radio chip, dynamic antenna

•Wi-fi stats: 802.11 a/b/g/n, 802.11n, 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz, up to 150 mbps

•Apple A6 processor: 2x faster performance and 2x better graphics

•New port for docking

•New Connector called "Lightning" - all-digital, 8 signal design, adaptive interface, improved durability, reversible, 80% smaller

•Adaptor available for accesories that use the 30 pin connector.

•Improved battery life: 8 hours of 3G talk time, 10 hours of Wi-fi browsing or video, 40 hours of music, 225 hours on standby.


•Better headphones - higher quality and redesigned

•Headphone jack will be on the bottom instead of on top

•Three microphones: bottom, front, and back

•One-touch status posting to Facebook and Twitter

•Siri enhancements: get sports scores and standings, movie recommendations, restaurant reservations

•All software will be updated, apps will work as before, devs given early access
