Long Horned Live Blog
It has begun. You can't stop it. It's Fight Night. The action hits air at 7PM/6c with an all new UFC Unleashed, followed by Fight Night Live with Nate Marquardt vs. Rousimar Palhares then the premiere of The Ultimate Fighter and finally a special airing of Ultimate Gracie, a documentary on the man who started it all. But the action is already starting here at the Frank Erwin Center on The University of Texas campus and our live blog will be breaking down every punch, takedown and awkward glance at Arianny from the undercard. Hit refresh after every round but be careful SPOILERS ARE INCLUDED especially for anyone on the West coast.
This could be the biggest night of fights we’ve ever had on Spike, so I guess it’s fitting that UFN is coming from Texas. Get it? Because everything is bigger Texas. Yup.
First up, it's Forrest Petz vs. Brian Foster
Round 1:
Foster Catches him with a left hook and he’s in trouble early. He comes back at, Petz tries to duck but slips and falls to the mat. Foster follows up with a barrage of lefts that put Petz in a bad spot. Foster knows he's close to the win and he smothers Petz with a ground and pound that’s just too much. It’s not before referee Herb Dean calls the TKO.
David Mitchell vs. TJ Waldbuger
Round 1:
They each have the other in an ankle lock. But they break free. Walburger takes his back but Mitchell gets loose and he finds himself in the guard of Waldburger fighting off a triangle. Back to the feet and the crowd roars for the hometown boy It’s not long before Waldburger gets him back on the matt and searching for more submissions. So far this is an outstanding display of jiu jitsu. Lots of back and forth and lots submission attempts but nothing stuck. Waldburger seemed to be one step ahead the whole time. A dangerous game for Mitchell to play.
Round 2:
Waldburger goes in for the takedown and Mitchell grabs an arm, looking for the kimura. Waldburger spins and looks to turn it into an armbar but he lets it go. Mitchell, now on the bottom, sends off a few blows from him back. Mitchell locks up a guillotine but Waldburger hops to the other side and defends, transitioning into an armbar attempt. Waldburger tries for another ankle lock.
Round 3:
Waldburger gets a takedown and wastes no time taking the back of his opponent. He locks up a rear naked choke and it’s tight. Blood is streaming down Mitchell’s face but he’s holding on. He breaks free and Walburger goes to work with ground and pound. He takes Mitchell's back again. Mitchell is looking for another kimura from the bottom, but he doesn't really have anything. This was pretty much all Walburger, though he couldn't find the finisher. Should be a decision for Waldburger.
Rich Attonito vs. Rafael Natal
Round 1:
The Raging Bull catches a left from Natal. Natal slaps on a leg kick. Again, Natal lands one and this one looks like it hurt a little. Finally Attonito lands a solid shot and sends Natal crashing to the mat. The Bull is now really raging but Natal is able to stammer back to his feet and fend off the attack.
Round 2:
Attonito sends off a kick that lands a little low and he gets a warning from the ref but the action continues. Natal seems displeased and mounts a quick attack but Attonitio isn’t hurt. Natal gets a takedown and tests Attonito’s guard, which is not particularly impressive right now. But Attonito recovers and they’re back to the feet. Attonito fends off a takedown.
Round 3:
Natal sends a looping left that misses and Attonito responds with an uppercut. A Natal leg kick is caught and Attonito pushes him back to the fence and pummels him with his free hand. Natal slips and Attonito takes advantage. Rich is on top, doing what he can to wear out Natal, but his defense from the guard is too tight and Rich can’t find enough room to make anything happen.
Unanimous decision goes to Rich Attonito.
