James Cameron Thinking About Forbidden Planet

by nathanbloch   December 19, 2008 at 4:33PM  |  Views: 53

Word on the street is that James Cameron is interested in directing the upcoming remake of Forbidden Planet. He's still working away on his newest film, Avatar, but apparently he's made it known that he might just be down to update the 1956 sci-fi. Will time allow for this sublime pairing of project and filmmaker?

IESB.net quotes Cameron as saying he's been "eyeing" the movie for ten years, and states that he's "very interested" in directing it. That said, the proof is in the pudding. Cameron hasn't exactly been prolific for the past ten years. I guess Titanic pretty much did it for him for the next decade.

But if this does become official, and Cameron does sign on to helm the remake, that could be the best thing to happen to a sci-fi remake since...well, forever.
