OnionMap is where it's at. None of that ridiculous bird's eye or creepy streetview. OnionMap is a cartoonified, 3D map service with most major cities in the world (as long as you don't count Los Angeles). You can highlight restaurants, hotels, etc, just like Google maps. And, the best part, is as a cost-of-living yardstick, they use the local price of a Big Mac. Yum.
