Indonesian Surfers Take Fire for a Ride

September 1, 2011

Surfers might look, sound, and (presumably) smell like shiftless stoners who spend all of their days experimenting with the effects of THC on human balance and equilibrium, but some are more badass than you or I could ever hope to be.

Surfer Bruce Irons, a member of the Red Bull Minor Threat surfing team, proved that with a very hot and dangerous surfing stunt off the coast of the Mentawai Islands in Indonesia.

The three-time world champion surfer actually set part of his board on fire and took it out to sea to grind the waves with a large flaming trail of sparks and smoke following just behind him. He used flares to create the fiery look and to keep it from being extinguished by the water and it's actually makes a really cool effect as the water towers over him, with an orange glow creeping out of the crest of the wave. The only way it could be cooler if he had some hot dog weenies and marshmallows to roast while he was riding it.
