High School Students Get Schooled by Barack Obama

June 8, 2010

If you're graduating high school, you usually have a local "hero" delivering your commencement speech. And while the speeches are usually filled with good intentions and advice for the future, they're not often what you'd call "electrifying." But for the lucky students at Kalamazoo Central, that couldn't be further from the truth.

The graduating students of Kalamazoo Central High School in Michigan got a surprise on Monday when the leader of the free world himself made an unexpected appearance as their commencement speaker. And thanks to Get Schooled, who were provided the opportunity to cover the event exclusively, now you can see the excitement for yourself!

Founded on the belief that our nation can be made stronger by educating the minds and improving the skills of every American, Get Schooled is devoted to helping America's students, parents, teachers, communities, and corporations utilize their power for change. And where else is the potential for change more important than in our schools?

As you'll see in the videos below, the students at Kalamazoo Central beat out five other high schools to win the Race to the Top competition.

Whether or not you're a high school student yourself or those days are long behind you, it's pretty cool to see the excitement in the room when these kids see the President himself strolling in.

Never one to pass up an opportunity to work the room, Obama was sure to take some time to meet the recent graduates.

Why couldn't our high school graduations have been that awesome?
