The UFC officially announced today that a bout between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez at UFC 108 on January 2 will determine the number contender 1 at heavyweight.
Cain Velasquez has risen very quickly through the ranks of the UFC and his recent domination of Ben Rothwell was more than enough to turn heads. The undefeated, young star needs just one more win to earn a shot at the belt currently held by Brock Lesnar, but standing in his way is one of the most dangerous men on the planet. Nogueira’s last win over Hall of Famer Randy Couture put to rest any talk that the weathered veteran had seen better days.
Brock Lesnar is currently slated to defend his title against Shane Carwin, but a date has not been determined for that contest.
Also confirmed for UFC 108, Rashad Evans will make his return to action since losing the light heavyweight title to Lyoto Machida to take Thiago Silva.
