It's been awhile since we've seen Wesley Snipes in a film that didn't go straight to the shelves of a video store. He's making his come back with director Abel Ferrara, whom he worked with back in 1990 on King of New York. The two are going to make an action/thriller called Game of Death.
Variety gives us the details:
Snipes stars as a politician's bodyguard who must fend off five of the world's top assassins. Zoe Bell and Robert Davi co-star. "Death" was penned by James Agnew. Producers are Billy Dietrich and Rafael Primorac. Exec producers are Voltage Pictures' Nicolas Chartier and Nadine de Barros plus Roger Grad.
Apparently this movie is already in production, so hopefully it won't be too long before we get to see if Snipes has his game back. He can only do so many Blade movies before you kind of expect him to be wearing fangs in whatever movie he's in.
Snipes is definitely a good fit to play a bodyguard going mano a mano with assassins, even if the whole assassin routine is pretty tired out. This sounds like a mix between In the Line of Fire and Wanted, which could make a very interesting movie, indeed.
So will Snipes finally claw his way out of both his cinematic and legal troubles long enough to give a performance that puts him back in the public's good graces? Looks like we're about to find out.
