The Seven Most Ridiculous Movie Scars

by dsussman   May 03, 2011 at 6:00PM  |  Views: 20,210
There’s something special about a facial scar that can instantly add charisma, individuality, and star power to a character’s appearance. Unfortunately, if used incorrectly, an added blemish from an injury can botch not only the character, but the entire film itself.

7. Dr. Evil - Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery

Source: New Line Cinema

Based on the classic James Bond villain Blofeld, the Austin Powers nemesis Dr. Evil easily has one of the most ridiculous facial scars ever seen in cinema. Now I’m well aware that this is supposed to be a parody making fun of all the numerous Bond films featuring Blofeld, but it just seems right for this list to point to the goofy Mike Myers brainchild that had the balls to show how truly zany Bond villains can be at times.

6. Kyle - Beastly

Source: CBS Films

A modern day interpretation of Beauty and the Beast, Beastly took a slightly less fairytale look at the classic story and train-wrecked the situation with one of the most ridiculously scarred faces audiences have ever seen.

For those of you that don’t know the premise of the film, after getting cursed by a goth chick at his high school, Kyle finds himself turning into a terrifying beast due to his spoiled uptown ways. Sucks to be him. Without being too mean, the scar work done on Beastly’s Alex Pettyfer is seriously one of the weirdest examples of special makeup effects in a major motion picture in recent memory. This guy is supposed to be hideous mess, not the lead singer of Disturbed with a bunch of paper cuts on his face.

5. Kano - Mortal Kombat

Source: New Line Cinema

Okay, guys, I’ll totally admit that I kinda liked the first Mortal Kombat live-action feature when it came out back in 1995. What I couldn’t stand then and can’t stand even more now was the presentation of Kano in the film. First, I had no idea that Black Dragon leader Kano was even British in the first place. Thanks, Hollywood. With that said, one the film’s most ridiculous moments came when Kano first stepped onto the screen exposing the legendary portion of his face that’s covered with a metal plate as a result of a disfiguring injury prior to the events of the series. As a kid, I was expecting a lot here, but like a lot of movie moments, I was completely underwhelmed, not to mention legitimately confused by what was going on.

4. Jigsaw - Punisher: War Zone

Source: Lionsgate/Columbia Pictures

Billy “The Beaut” Russo (a.k.a. Jigsaw) came out of the gate as a not-so-awful villain in Punisher: War Zone. S**t, Dominic West (The Wire) is an amazing actor, people. I wish I could go on and on with the compliments here, but the exact moment where Billy gets some serious facial damage, everything pretty much goes right down the frickin’ tubes.

Due to his hideous scars, Billy “The Beaut” Russo transforms into an extremely off comical bad guy that few of us could take seriously. The irony here is that the facial scars on Jigsaw aren’t really all that bad. It’s the character’s ridiculousness that makes his off-putting facial features an instant frontrunner for some kind of Razzie Award. I really wanted to like this one, but you can only fool yourself for so long.
