Jodie Foster Defends Mel Gibson

Jodie Foster has come to Mel Gibson’s defense again in a new interview. The actress and director calls Gibson the "easiest, nicest person I've ever worked with.”  She says the two became instant friends after meeting on the set of Maverick. She tells More magazine, “The second I met him, I said, 'I will love this man for the rest of my life.'” Even in light of recent allegations of domestic violence and the release of some damning audio tapes, Foster is standing by her friend. She says, “When you love a friend, you don't abandon them when they are struggling. Of course, Mel is an undeniably gifted actor and director, and The Beaver is one of his most powerful and moving performances. But more importantly, he is and has been a true and loyal friend. I hope I can help him get through this dark moment.” [More]

Paris Hilton Detained in Japan

Yesterday Paris Hilton pleaded guilty to drug possession and today she was barred from entering Japan because of that guilty plea. The heiress was detained at Japan's Narita Airport by immigration officials because she currently has a suspended jail sentence. Paris’ people released a statement, saying, “Paris was contractually bound to her business trip and didn't want to let down her brands and many Asian fans. She intended on fulfilling her contract and is trying hard to do the responsible thing, but this is beyond her control. She is very disappointed by tonight's events.” For the time being Hilton is holed up at an airport hotel with her sister Nicky awaiting the Japanese officials' decision about whether she'll be allowed into the country or not. Her appearance promoting her new perfume was cancelled. [E!]

Kanye West to Appear on SNL

Even though Kanye West recently took shots at the cast members of Saturday Night Live on his new track “Power,” the wild hip-hop star is actually set to appear on the show’s new season early next month. NBC confirmed yesterday that West will be the musical guest on the October 2 episode hosted by Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston. Kanye last appeared on the show in December 2008. I wonder if it’ll be as bad as last time? I sure do hope so. [MTV]

Michael Vick Gets a Starting Job in Philly

Just one day after Andy Reid told sports writers that Kevin Kolb had the job, reports have been flooding in that Michael Vick has been named the Philadelphia Eagles' starting quarterback. "It came as a complete surprise," a source close to Vick told ESPN. An Eagles official stated that the decision to start Vick was "just a football decision” and that “he is just playing too well." ESPN has also reported that this is a permanent move for the team. The NFL sure does know how to forgive and forget. [ESPN]

The Situation Now Has a Top 10 App

Reality television star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino continues to cash in on his 15 minutes of fame. The Jersey Shore star released a new iPhone app last Thursday and already it has rocketed into Apple's top 10-grossing entertainment apps. The application is called, you guessed it, “The Situation” and sells for $4.99. The app offers workout tips, a video game titled “Grenade Dodger,” and a “GTL” finder so you can locate your nearest gym, tanning salon, and Laundromat. The Situation is currently a contestant on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and is reportedly on target to earn $5 million this year. [Yahoo]
