How to Stop a Car With a Stuck Accelerator

bybradiger   January 28, 2010 at 4:11PM  |  Views: 110

As we previously reported, Toyota has been forced to halt the sales of eight different models, due to the potential for injury and/or death due to stuck accelerator problems, causing the car to accelerate uncontrollably. Part of the bigger problem is that many drivers aren't sure what to do if the problem arises. Consider yourself about to get learned.

Compounding the inevitable freakout that would occur should your car start to accelerate uncontrollably is the fact that most modern cars simply aren't equipped with brakes strong enough to overcome the torque of the engine - especially at higher speeds. In fact, trying to fight the throttle at higher speeds can often only make the problem worse. Fortunately, there's a simple solution that's basically foolproof.
