Bellator 51 Preview

September 23, 2011 at 12:00AM  |  Views: 992
Season 5 of Bellator Fighting Championships continues this Saturday Sept. 24 in Canton, Ohio as Bellator 51 kicks off a stacked bantamweight tournament. The 135-pound quarterfinals are live on MTV 2 and on Epix 2 in HD at 9/8c. Headlining the card is a wrestling match for the ages as the self-proclaimed "baddest man on the planet" and Bellator featherweight champion Joe Warren goes to war against two-time world wrestling champion and Olympic bronze medalist Alexis Vila. It is the first step in Warren's quest to make history and become the first Bellator champion to simultaneously hold two titles in separate weight classes, but standing in his way is the undefeated Vila who has finished all but one his previous nine opponents.

Other main card match-ups include Bellator veteran Wilson Reis taking on Brazilian standout Eduardo Dantas, former WEC champion Chase Beebe battling WEC-vet Marcos Galvao, and Season 3 finalist Ed West meeting the once-beaten Luis Nogueira. Four fighters will punch their ticket into the semi-finals, moving them one step closer to winning the Season 5 bantamweight tournament and earning a title shot against 135-pound Bellator champion Zack Makovsky.

Before the main card broadcast begins, Spike.com brings you two hours of live local feature fights starring some of Ohio's best local talent. The live stream, which starts at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, features the first women's fight of Season 5 as local hero Jessica Eye squares off against Casey Noland. Eye will look to follow in the footsteps of her Ohio-based teammates from Team Strong Style in welterweight Chris Lozano and middleweight Brian Rogers, who earlier this season advanced to semi-finals in their respective divisions. Also on the undercard is a NAAFS – an Ohio-based promotion who is co-promoting the local feature fights – featherweight title fight between Frank Caraballo and Dustin Kempf.
