Failure is Funnier When it Happens on Skates

April 1, 2010

For a team that boasts both a storied history of fundamentally sound hockey and an extensive collection of Mike Vernon action figures, the Detroit Red Wings have had some hilarious, yet embarrassing problems with basic skating lately.

Patrick Eaves, a mediocre forward known for playing at the same high school as Sidney Crosby, added to these issues when he fell flat on his ass during a recent shoot-out.

Yes, his team is one of the hottest squads in the NHL, but "not falling" ranks somewhere between "avoid getting traded to Edmonton" and "don't let Chris Pronger near your wife" on the list of ways to succeed in hockey. So far, Eaves has only done one of these well.
