When to Stop a Fight

Complaining about stoppages in MMA is a little like trying to talk your way out of being dumped: it never accomplishes what you hope it will, and attempting it just makes you look pathetic.

But since we're dealing with a subjective judgment call, there have to be some guidelines to help us discern the good stoppages from the bad.

Let's wade into some specifics and see if we can't figure out what questions a referee must ask himself before jumping in and ruining someone's night.
