Ridley Scott Might Return to Aliens

20th Century Fox co-chairman Tom Rothman has spoken up about director Ridley Scott returning to the Aliens franchise that Scott began way back in 1979. Would this be the awesomest thing since the Batman Begins reboot? Hard to say, but dang if it doesn't have a crapload of potential.

Rothman gave an interview in which he discussed wooing Scott back to the world of Ellen Ripley and those acid-bleeding xenomorphs:

There's been some talk. Ridley Scott, Ridley is right now working on Robin Hood, but I think he's toying with the idea and that would be great for us. I mean, it's always been a matter of, really, if you can get the originator to do it that would be the greatest thing, so I've got my fingers crossed, all of them.

Let's hope the man has all his fingers.

Whether this would entail Scott producing another sequel, or a complete reconception of the franchise isn't yet clear. Perhaps a prequel is what's in order. One way or another, Fox had best get their ducks in a row so Scott can come in and breathe new life into this franchise, something that's been badly needed ever since the spate of ill-advised Predator vs. Alien movies made us all regret ever getting excited about going to the movies.
