Manny Ramirez was a great batter who ultimately left the game under a cloud of steroid allegations and suspended games. Unfortunately, his retirement has not brought any peace to the slugger: he's just been arrested on one count of domestic violence battery. Ramirez was booked into jail on Monday night.
The police were first called to Ramirez's home at 4:30pm yesterday, following a 911 call from Juliana Ramirez, his wife. According to the affadavit filed by the arresting officer, Juliana claims Ramirez struck her with “an open hand across the left side of her face, which also caused her to hit her head against the headboard.”
Ramirez claims that he grabbed his wife by the shoulders and shook her, causing her to hit the headboard. Either way, Juliana Ramirez had no major injuries, and neither of the Ramirezes offered a taped statement to the police.
According to Florida law, if the officer determines one member of a domestic dispute to be the aggressor, that person must be arrested. It's currently uncertain whether Ramirez will be headed to court or if the charges will be dropped.
