Wife Successfully Sues Husband for Lack of Sex
The French have long had a reputation for being wild, passionate lovers. Well, maybe not any more.
A 51-year-old Frenchman, known only as Jean-Louis B, has had the embarrassing misfortune of appearing in court and being peppered with questions about his sex life, or rather lack of one, by his ex-wife. That ex, known only as Monique, returned to court two years after divorcing with a determination to be compensated for a 21-year sexless marriage. She sued him for around $14,000…and won.
The successful court case stems from article 215 of France's civil code, which states married couples must agree to a "shared communal life." In deciding the case, the judge ruled, "A sexual relationship between husband and wife is the expression of affection they have for each other, and in this case it was absent. By getting married, couples agree to sharing their life and this clearly implies they will have sex with each other."
This is not the first time Monique has publicly derided her former husband's lack of bedroom prowess. Two years ago she blamed her marriage breakdown on his "low libido." Ouch! This woman obviously revels in highlighting her former husband's "inadequacies."
