ABBA post - Jim Colyer

December 23, 2009
ABBA recorded 110 songs in English in 10 years (1972-82), and I listed them from the best to the worst (in my opinion). I should not say "worst" because even ABBA's lesser songs contribute to this 110-piece puzzle. ABBA music as a whole looms like a great tapestry. It could be hanging on the wall in some renown museum in Europe. This is the most artistic pop music ever composed. It is the counterpart of Beethoven and Mozart. Each song is a mini-drama, a play in itself. As we stand and gaze at their bright tapestry, we see our own lives reflected in it. We see the ABBA themes of love, breaking up, reconciliation, war, women, music, night life, children and travel. ABBA music was an outgrowth of the personal experiences of Agnetha, Benny, Bjorn and Frida during their decade as the world's biggest group, but it also mirrors the experiences of baby boomers worldwide.
