Michael Bay vs. Paramount

Paramount recently announced that Transformers 3 was going to be released July 1, 2011, to the gleeful celebration of many fans. But now it's looking like Michael Bay and Paramount might not actually be on the same page.

Michael Bay recently posted on his own forum:

I said I was taking off a year from Transformers. Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 - they asked me on the phone - I said yes to July 4 - but for 2012 - whoops! Not 2011!!! That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots.

A break from fighting robots? Nonsense! Quit yer whinin' and get back on set and keep busting out more Optimus Prime and Megatron fisticuffs.

But in all seriousness, it will be interesting to see whether or not this creates a rift between the studio and the director. Even Bay critics will have to admit it's difficult at this point to imagine another director helming the epic battles between man, robot and robot.

Any of you out there with your eye on another director you think would be up to the task? Is cutting Bay out of Transformers 3 a deal breaker?
