It’s been a rough few days for Christina Aguilera. Contrary to what we previously believed, America really hangs onto things like “butchering the national anthem.” In fact, concerned citizens like Weird Al Yankovic are taking things so personally that they've decided to passively aggressively tweet about their anger.
“BTW, Christina Aguilera, nice job at the Super Bowl, but changing the words to songs is MY gig,” the "Amish Paradise" composer noted.
While the comment was made in relative jest, it does insinuate that America isn’t quite ready to let the whole “destroying our most cherished song” thing go. (Which is weird, because Ben Roethlisberger also choked under pressure on Sunday and nobody is suggesting that he hates America’s freedom.)
Perhaps it’s time to forgive X-Tina, move on and wait for a D-List celebrity to get arrested for sending threatening emails to Fred Savage? Anthem butchering isn't worth the hate.
Just a thought... from a Canadian immigrant who barely knows the words to the Star-Spangled Banner.
