New York, NY, March 24, 2017 – It was a 51-day standoff that fascinated a nation and ended calamitously. “Waco” is a six-part event series produced by Weinstein Television that is set to air on the Paramount Network in 2018. The series begins shooting on location in Santa Fe, NM next month.
The “Waco” cast will include Michael Shannon, Taylor Kitsch, Andrea Riseborough, Rory Culkin, Paul Sparks, Shea Whigham, and will feature John Leguizamo. Leguizamo will play the role of ATF agent Robert Rodriguez, the man who forged an unlikely bond with the group he was tasked with building a case against. Leguizamo recently co-starred on the Netflix drama series “Bloodline” and reprised his roles in the latest installments of the “John Wick” and “Ice Age” movie franchises. He was recently signed to co-star in the ABC drama pilot “Salamander.”
“Waco” will be an in-depth exploration of the events leading up to and concluding in the 1993 standoff between the FBI, ATF, and David Koresh’s spiritual sect, The Branch Davidians. It will be told from the perspectives of those most directly connected to the conflict from both sides, and will be the first time the story has ever been shared on network television. Viewers will be introduced to a narrative that is both surprising and in contrast to the media narrative and memories that they have of that fateful April day 25 years ago.
