Apple Fans Rejoice: iOS4 is Out
The newest version of the operating system shared by Apple's iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch devices has been released today, offering enhanced visuals, unified email boxes, and (for select devices) an Apple-ish version of multitasking! Hit the jump for details and direct links to get it.
Along with custom backgrounds, app folders for organization, and a bunch of other little tweaks, those with iPads and iPhone 3GS models will get multitasking, which should allow compatible programs to run in the background while you do other things (think listening to Pandora while browsing or using GPS navigation while listening to music) which is a big bonus.
iPhone 3G users will not get the benefit of multitasking, but they will get most of the other upgrades. Orginal iPhones don't get to play at all, and iPad users still have a while before their version of the OS is fully cooked.
The update requires iTunes 9.2, so make sure you're running the latest version before diving in. If you'd like to download the files directly instead of waiting for iTunes to find the updates, you can do so with the links below. Just hold down "option" (on Macs) or Shift (on a PC) while clicking the Update button in iTunes, and point it to the file you've downloaded. Happy upgrading!
