As you may know already, Trey Anastasio and his Phish homies performed for the first time in nearly five years at the Hampton Coliseum on Friday. I’m sure the show was face-meltingly good, but it seemed like the real party was outside the venue.
Unfortunately for their die-hard fans, police said today that they confiscated about $1.2 million in illegal drugs and more than $68,000 in cash from the band’s concertgoers. Dang.
Authorities also arrested 194 Phishheads during the three-night celebration.
Most of the arrests were for drug possession, use and distribution, police said. Tourism officials had estimated 75,000 fans would be coming to the coastal Virginia city. Nearly 200 law enforcement officers worked the weekend event, with the Vermont-based band picking up the tab.
Ouch. If I ever needed another reason not go to a Phish show this would have definitely done the trick. Although their horrible fans make it pretty easy to hate everything about Phish.
