You may not realize this, but there's a lot of lost footage from the original
Star Wars movies. George Lucas actually recut the entire first film with new effects before it was originally released, and trimmed away a lot of moments that fans have only heard rumors about. But now, we're getting a chance to see it.
Lucasfilm
debuted a sizzle reel for the upcoming Blu-rays at Comic-Con that's a
Star Wars fan's dream, full of little clips of sequences that have been kept in the vault for decades. Among the new moments:
- An entire scene set in a sandstorm.
- Luke building his new lightsaber at the beginning of Return of the Jedi.
- A shootout at what looks like the rebel base on Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back.
- And...Luke looking through his binoculars from A New Hope. Look, they can't all be pure excitement.
The Blu-ray of the full saga comes out September 16.
