Janet Jackson Pays Tribute to Her Brother at BET Awards

June 29, 2009

Last evening at the end of the BET Awards in Los Angeles, Janet Jackson spoke publicly for the first time about the death of her big brother Michael Jackson.

A visibly distraught Janet Jackson seemed to remain strong as she fought back tears while addressing an already emotional crowd.

"My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was too painful," she told the audience. "To you, Michael is an icon," Janet said. "To us, Michael is family. He will forever live in all of our hearts. "On behalf of my family and myself, thank you for all of your love, thank you for all of your support. We miss him so much. Thank you so much."

Immediately after Janet exited the stage, host Jamie Foxx and R&B superstar Ne-Yo closed the show with an emotional piano version of the Jackson 5 hit “I’ll Be There.” The Kleenex people must have made a killing last night...
