Last weekend, an ambitious – and unidentified – sports fan placed a $5 bet on a 15-team NFL parlay. Fast-forward 56 quarters of football and this gambling God has 14 correct picks and sits one win away from turning five bucks into 100 large. (That’s $100,000 for those of you who don’t spend every Sunday funnelling money into online sportsbook accounts.)
A 15-team parlay, which requires the bettor to correctly pick all 15 games against the spread, is nearly impossible to do. It’s sort of like the Moby Dick of sports wagering.
In this instance, the purchased ticket is one game away from becoming one of the most profitable bets of all time.
“That game is Eagles at 49ers on Sunday night. The player has the 49ers [+3 points] on the parlay card in which he risked just $5 to win $100,000,” a random paper in Delaware reports.
Should be a nice, relaxing Sunday for the guy whose financial well-being is dependent on Alex Smith and a defense that gave up 31 points to the Kansas City Chiefs.
