While VGA 10
celebrated achievements in the video game industry in the past year, it also provided us a look at what the landscape will look like in 2013 with no shortage of world premiere trailers. Here are some of the teasers and trailers you missed if you're one of those woeful few who didn't tune in to get a first look.
South Park: The Stick of Truth
The latest game involving the denizens of South Park: Colorado is a roleplaying adventure scripted by Matt Stone and Trey Parker and developed by Obsidian Entertainment, which means that the game will be engrossing but likely won't lose the charm and especially the humor of the television show itself.
The long awaited reboot puts a new spin on the Lara Croft mythos, putting her in a darker adventure with more serious ramifications. And pants.
Assassin's Creed III: The Tyranny of King Washington
If gamers who were fans of alternate history didn't already salivate at the prospect of the Assassins Creed franchise taking a trip across the pond, this one sure will. The DLC sets the player in a divergent reality where Washington, after winning the Revolution for the United States, becomes a despotic monarch himself. Pretty cool.
Gears of War: Judgment
We finally got a look at the latest installment of the Gears of War franchise. Damon Baird and Augustus Cole are back as members of Kilo Squad, who this time around have to fight the Locust while also on the run after being accused of treason.
The latest installment of the Bioshock franchise deviates quite a bit from its predecessors, putting players in control of a former Pinkerton agent in an alternate reality of the United States in the early 20th Century. But while the setting and the experiences are new, the gameplay and engine will be familiar to fans of the series.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2
The sequel to the Castlevania reboot sees Gabriel return as Dracula, who must survive the aggression of the other members of the Belmont clan. It's an interesting twist on the Castlevania mythos, to be sure.
The Last of Us
In a post-apocalyptic Earth ravaged by a fungal virus that's crippled society, a man and a young teenage girl have to fight to prevent becoming another one of the infected while also staving off the uninfected survivors of the outbreak (who may be even deadlier than the afflicted). We also got a release date for the game: May 7th, 2013.
