The Top Five Pop Culture Repo Men

by Dana Flax   May 09, 2011 at 5:44PM  |  Views: 8,979
It’s official: Repo Games is a hit! However, we can’t take full credit for introducing the entertaining tales of repo man to popular culture. Count down with us the top five repo men in pop culture, then be sure to watch all new episodes of Repo Games on Tuesdays at 11/10c on Spike.

5. “Repo Man” Barry Darsow

About the only person who has looked moderately cool in a Lone Ranger mask (other than the Lone Ranger, that is), Barry Darsow was a solo wrestling fixture of the WWF from 1991-1993 under the name “Repo Man.” Despite the high-pitched cackle and tow-rope, Repo Man never reached the pinnacle of wrestling success. But stealing "Macho Man" Randy Savage's hat has to count for something.

4. The Mysterious Sunset Boulevard Repo Men

The repo men who chase down-on-his luck screenwriter Joe Gillis (William Holden), causing him to drive onto washed-up movie star Norma Desmond’s (Gloria Swanson) property, helped to establish the creepy tone of this classic Hollywood noir film. If one assumes Gillis hits a low point by getting too broke to make car payments, then he's got no idea what's in store for poor Joe...

3. The Guy Who Took Away Paris Hilton’s Mercedes SLR

Three cheers for the man or men who took away Paris Hilton’s $500K flashy piece while she served time in prison in 2007. After missing two payments on a $400,000 loan, the aforementioned repo men hauled away Paris’ SLR McLaren, pictured below. The doors flipped up, much like the thumbs of many bystanders.

2. Emilio Estevez in Repo Man

Perhaps the only cool movie ever made about car repossession was ‘80s fantasy thriller Repo Man, in which young Otto (Emilio Estevez) learns the tricks of the trade from Bud (played by one of the best character actors of all time, Harry Dean Stanton). If only all repossession scenarios involved sex, drugs, and rock and roll, they just might be more widely enjoyed.

1. Josh & Tom of Repo Games

Call us biased, but we happen to think that Josh Lewis and Tom DeTone strike the greatest balance of humor, muscle, and sharp wit. Make sure to watch Repo Games on Tuesdays at 8/7c on Spike to see what all the fuss is about.
