Comic-Con 2011: Amazing Spider-Man Villain Rhys Ifans Arrested

byDannyGallagher   July 23, 2011 at 7:00PM  |  Views:  |  Comment
One of The Amazing Spider-Man's big villains has been arrested at Comic-Con, only this time it's not a drunken cosplayer in a Green Goblin throwing flaming pumpkins off the roof of the building in a drunken, geek-induced stupor.

Actor Rhys Ifans, who plays Lizard in the upcoming Spider-Man movie reboot, got into a bit of a scuffle with one of the Con's security guard and earned himself a misdemeanor charge of battery.

Reuters reports that Ifans tried to get into Comic-Con with an "entourage" but without the proper identification. So when a security guard stopped him, he became "abusive, belligerent, and aggressive". He not only pushed a guard out of his way, but he also started hurling insults at the good ol' U.S.A. and shouting "I don't live here." Well, we can't all be perfect.

The guard made a "citizen's arrest" and held Ifans until San Diego police officers could arrive and charge him with a Class C misdemeanor charge of battery. Even though the officers said they smelled alcohol on his breath, he was not charged for public intoxication. A Sony Pictures spokesperson issued a statement on Ifans' behalf saying that he "deeply regrets the incident."
