Can't Afford an Ariel Atom? Build Your Own

A mysterious gearhead, known only by his Flickr account name Proximacentauri, has proven that the desire to go fast is, in fact, the mother of ingenuity.  Instead of trying to find a way to pony up to the $50,000+ for an Ariel Atom, Proximacentauri decided to build his own, dubbed the “Z59” – in his garage, out of spare parts.

The item list includes stainless steel from junked appliances, a throttle assembly out of a dumpster, and a junkyard Acura RSX motor, generating 160hp.

The crazy thing is, this thing actually works, and it’s pretty fast. As in, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds kind of fast. It’s 100% street legal and registered. You can check out the entire buildup right here.

Not bad, kid. Not… bad.
