After Robert Downey, Jr. bailed on Jon Favreau's forthcoming Cowboys & Aliens, everyone wondered who would take his place (yes, admit it: you wondered). It looks like the man better known as the newest James Bond might just be the guy to do it.
Collider got the inside scoop when it reported that Daniel Craig is in negotiations to take Downey's place. At this point everything is very embryonic, but if this works out Craig could be both Bond and a gun-slinging alien fighter:
“In negotiations” means that Craig has not been cast in the role. What it means is that they’re trying to work out a deal for him to star, but sometimes things don’t work out. Maybe the schedule for Bond 23 moves up or he decides to do a different project. Whatever the reason, let me stress once more: Daniel Craig is in negotiations for the role, but he has not been cast.
You got that? Negotiations. Not cast, lest anyone get their hopes too far up.
But Craig seems like a natural for this kind of thing, even if he is British, and even if he would have to do a convincing southern American accent and wear a cowboy hat for two hours.
What if Craig doesn't work out? Who would be an acceptable replacement? I suppose Clint Eastwood is a little too old at this point, and Mickey Rourke is a little too...scary. But what about Bradley Cooper? What about Sharlto Copley? The names are plenteous.
Who would you choose to replace Downey if you had your druthers?
