Christian Bale as a Crack Addict

by nathanbloch   July 14, 2009 at 1:49PM  |  Views: 229

New pictures from Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale's new film, The Fighter, have surfaced, and in them we get to see what a crack-addicted Bale would look like.

Once again he's shed the pounds to achieve a gaunt look for the part, as well as had his hair thinned and his wardrobe picked from the bins of Goodwill. Bale plays Dicky Ecklund, a boxer turned trainer turned crack addict, opposite Wahlberg as Bale's half-brother "Irish" Micky Ward. David O. Russell is directing the film:

The film follows the lives and boxing careers of junior welterweight Micky Ward and boxer/trainer/mentor Dicky Eklund; Melissa Leo plays the mother to the two men, and Amy Adams is on board as Micky’s bartender girlfriend. After gestating for quite some time with Aronofsky set to direct, it’s great to see this finally moving forward, even without him in the director’s chair.

You can't accuse Bale of not having range. The man knows how to put on and take off the pounds when he needs to.
