For anybody who watches the Super Bowl every year and thinks “Man, the only thing this game is missing is an anti-abortion commercial featuring a former Heisman Trophy winner,” this year's gridiron classic may be the greatest game you ever watch.
As part of a campaign for Focus on the Family, Tim Tebow and his mother will appear in a 30-second advertisement in which the Gators’ quarterback talks about how his mother was told to get an abortion when she was pregnant with him (you know, the kind of casual conversation most families have around the dinner table).
Obviously, various liberal groups have protested the commercial, claiming it was inappropriate for national television citing CBS’ rejection of a “gay-friendly” advertisement in 2004.
The network, however, disagreed – and the ad will run as planned.
In a press conference about the campaign Tebow claimed "I'm an athlete who's not afraid to stand up for what I believe in, and I think in today's day and age that counts for something," a statement very few people would object to.
I don’t have any feelings one way or the other (as a Canadian I’m not allowed to have opinions), but something tells me this controversy is going to explode once the commercial air on the biggest television event of the year.
