Michael Douglas Has Stage IV Cancer, Opens Up on Letterman

bydsussman   September 01, 2010 at 2:00PM  |  Views:  |  Comment

While promoting his upcoming film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Michael Douglas dropped by the Late Show with David Letterman and courageously opened up about his throat cancer battle.

After revealing that he has Stage IV cancer, the most advanced stage, David Letterman asked Douglas if this was a good diagnosis. Douglas replied: “Um no.  You like to be at Stage 1…but it was not.  The big thing you’re always worried about… is it spreading.”

Even though the Stage IV cancer is the worst prognosis and it has spread beyond the original tumor, Douglas said he has an 80% chance of recovery. Here’s the interview:

Wow. Michael Douglas is seriously the man. It takes real balls to go on a nationally televised show and talk about such a serious subject so candidly. We all wish him a speedy recovery.
