Harold & Kumar Directors Do One Night Stan

Josh Friedlander, a screenwriter who has the dubious distinction of having written a script that wound up on the 2007 Black List of most liked screenplays (Pictures of You) has sold a comedic script to Lionsgate, One Night Stan. The guys who brought us Harold & Kumar, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, are going to direct. Will this be the next The Hangover?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story goes thus:

When Stan learns his fiancee, Julie, has had more sexual partners than he, he gets her blessing for one night to play catch-up. Unfortunately, his plans for a sex buffet don't come together quite the way he had hoped.

Sounds like pretty standard stuff, though it's definitely conceptually similar to The Hangover. Let's hope it's not too similar -- even Zach Galifianakis is hesitant to jump back into Hangover territory.

Assuming this has enough originality to it to rise above the slew of Hangover replicas that are certain to pop up over the next year, will it have any big stars? Apparently not:

Lionsgate has not strayed often into comedy territory and rarely has done well with it -- unless it has Tyler Perry's name in the title. Post-Hangover, though, concept is king, especially if it offers a big canvas for raunchy, R-rated fun with under-the-radar talent.

It looks like every studio and production company wants to find the next Galifianakis and crew, but that's a lot easier than it sounds. And it should be noted: even Galifianakis isn't the next Galifianakis -- yet. The man's only had one big movie under his belt, could we step back and let the man's career breathe a little before attempting to duplicate it?

It's pretty safe to say Zach Galifianakis is no longer under-the-radar. Who's going to take his place in One Night Stan?
