After a difficult year polishing his Super Bowl rings and sleeping with one of the hottest women on the planet, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was honored as the NFL’s 2009 comeback player of the year – edging out several less popular athletes married to average looking women.
Brady, who suffered a season-ending leg injury in 2008, came back with a vengeance this season, notching over 4,000 yards and 28 touchdown passes while leading the Patriots back to the playoffs after a one year hiatus that Boston area sports fans would literally not stop whining about.
Cadillac Williams finished second in AP voting after taking a 12-month vacation from the injured reserve, while Vince Young rounded out the top three for successfully leaving suicide watch long enough to edge out a 37-year-old recovering alcoholic for the right to hand Chris Johnson the ball 35 times a game.
On behalf of Spike.com, congratulations Tom. As someone who aspires to also win three Super Bowls and marry a Brazilian supermodel after knocking up an incredibly hot actress, I’m a big fan of your work. (Oh, and if you could cover the three point spread against the Ravens this week my knee caps would really appreciate it. I don’t want to win the “Comeback Gambler of the Year Award” 24 months from now because I was eating my meals through a straw in 2011 and was unable to make weekly trips to Vegas.
