The Ultimate Geek Holiday Wish List

December 19, 2012

PROGRAMMING NOTE: Be sure to tune in to All Access Weekly this Thursday at midnight/11c for Katie Linendoll's holiday gift guide!

Sing it with us:

Oh, c'mon, let's be real. It's the season for giving and merriment and all that, but it also means PRESENTS! And presents are awesome, especially if you're a geek. It's nice to have a moral pinned at the end of a Rankin Bass stop-motion holiday special, but most of us aren't in a position to save Christmas.

Besides, go back and watch "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" if you haven't in a while. Some of the stuff in there is pretty messed up, like Santa telling Donner he should be ashamed of himself because his son had a red nose. We're not kidding. Go see for yourselves.

So what's wrong with taking a little time to celebrate what we're getting? Or, better yet, what we want to get? As far as we're concerned: nothing!*

*Disclaimer: we are being very selfish and self-serving for the purposes of this article.

With that in mind, we here at All Access have put together our Ultimate Geek Wish List for this holiday season.

Blade Runner Style LED Umbrella

As much as we love "Bladerunner," one of the goofiest parts of it was that it envisioned a future where umbrellas would be unnecessarily high tech, complete with an LED handle. Why? I suppose because it looks cool, which is why this close approximation from ThinkGeek ends up on our list.

The 1st Three Volumes of Mark Waid's Current run on Daredevil

If you haven't had the pleasure of reading any of Mark Waid's work on Daredevil so far, you're really missing out on what might be the best mainstream superhero comic in years. Coming off the heels of Brubaker's epic run on the book, Waid takes it in a completely different direction while still maintaining a sense of intimacy with the character. More importantly, it's fun. Really, really fun.

Battlestar Galactica Coaster Set

We will not allow you to leave rings on our tables with these neat coasters. It's also perfect for guests, because when you ask them to use a coaster, they can feel less embarrassed if you embarrass yourself first by throwing it down and stiffly shouting "so say we all!"

Monty Python Killer Rabbit Slippers

I'm still shaky around rabbits because of that one scene in "The Holy Grail," so these slippers could be a mixed blessing. Yet we all need to confront our fears sometime. Get on my feet, you bloodthirsty savages.

Scrolling LED Belt Buckle

Personalize this awesome buckle any way you like. I'm hoping I can get it to spell out "LOOK IT HAD IT'S FAULTS BUT PROMETHEUS WAS STILL A GORGEOUS FILM AND I ENJOYED IT QUITE A BIT." I mean I happen to believe it's true, but it'd also be amusing to catch people staring at your midsection for an uncomfortably long time.

The R2D2 Hoodie

We like hoodies, and is there anything cooler than this? It even zips up all the way so that you can blindly bump into things and do the R2D2 scream ("yeeeeeooooooooo!"). Our All Access Weekly host Katie Linendoll already has one, and I am very, very jealous of this. I can't let it go.

The Jedi Bath Robe

Along similar lines, this Jedi bath robe is a more discreet option for those that don't necessarily fly their Geek flag in public.

Retina 13" Macbook Pro

Lighter, thinner, and more powerful than its predecessors, which is good for those of us who are always on the go. Another big plus: 75% less screen reflection than the previous model. WANT!
