Obama Weighs in on Kanye Fiasco (Now With Audio!)

September 15, 2009

Kanye West has been taking a ton of criticism from numerous celebrities and musicians because of his on-stage stupidity on Sunday evening at the VMAs. And now, even President Obama is weighing in on the controversy.

According to a tweet from ABC reporter Terry Moran that has since been deleted, Obama reportedly referred to Kanye West as a "jackass" in an off-the-record conversation with CNBC this morning:

Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a 'jackass' for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT'S presidential…

The popularity of this tweet led to an ABC spokesperson sending an explanation to Politico.com about what really went down:

In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview. This was done before our editorial process had been completed. That was wrong. We apologize to the White House and CNBC and are taking steps to ensure that it will not happen again.

If the President of the Untied States calls you a "jackass" you know you've done something pretty stupid. Big ups to Obama for speakin' the truth.

CNBC and the White House declined to comment.

UPDATE: The President's comments have been released:
