Gang Starr's Guru Dies

by dsussman   April 20, 2010 at 2:00PM  |  Views: 162

Gang Starr MC Guru (a.k.a. Keith Elam) has passed away at the age of 43.

According to a statement issued by Guru’s good friend Solar, as well as DJ Premier's website, Guru died this morning following a yearlong battle with cancer. Last month, the disease caused a heart attack that left him in a coma.

"The world has lost one of the best MCs and hip-hop icons of all-time—my loyal best friend, partner, and brother, Guru," Solar said. "Guru has been battling cancer for well over a year and has lost his battle! This is a matter that Guru wanted private until he could beat it, but tragically, this did not happen. The cancer took him. Now the world has lost a great man and a true genius."

This is a huge loss to the hip-hop community. I just hope he’s kickin’ it with Big L up in heaven. RIP Guru.
