Sony Music Entertainment has announced today that the first 24-hour pre-sales for Michael Jackson’s This Is It feature has resulted in record-breaking sales around the globe.
Sony is claiming that “no movie in history has generated so many ticket sales so far in advance of its release.” Fandango and MovieTickets.com have reportedly been experiencing extraordinary demand for the film with hundreds of showtimes already sold out after one day of pre-sales.
Tickets went on sale Sunday for the flick, which is set for a simultaneous release in most major cites worldwide on October 28th. Select venues will offer "advance screenings" as early as 9PM PT on the 27th. Sony is also stating that international “exhibitors from London and Sydney to Bangkok and Tokyo have experienced the same epic demand.”
It’s hard to tell if Sony is just trying to create hype or if Michael’s last artist endeavor will actually make Hollywood history. Time will only tell.
