In what has to be one of the most desperate moves in her “career” to score some extra cash, Lindsay Lohan released a new commercial today for the penny auction website Needless to say, it’s ridiculous all around. In the extremely low budget video piece, Lohan can be seen sitting on her couch with her trusty laptop and tries to convince all of her “friends” to drop by the Beezid website for some “great deals.” The struggling starlet was apparently paid well over $25,000 to do the spot while on house arrest in her Venice, California abode. Ailing Man Robs Bank to Get Free Healthcare

What do you do if you have carpal tunnel syndrome and back problems but don’t have any health insurance? If you’re 59-year-old North Carolina resident James Richard Verone, you rob a bank. That’s right. The recently laid-off employee of Coca-Cola allegedly robbed a bank by passing a note to a teller demanding $1 and medical attention for his problems, with the thinking being that all prison inmates have regular access to free healthcare. Because he wasn’t brandishing a weapon and only demanded a dollar, Verone is now awaiting trial on a charge of larceny instead of bank robbery. [Gaston Gazette]

50 Cent Writing Anti-Bullying Novel

Even though this seems like an ironic joke, rapper 50 Cent is apparently getting set to pen a book that tells the story of a schoolyard bully "who finds redemption as he faces what he's done." "I had a strong desire to write Playground because I wanted to explore how a kid becomes a bully," Fiddy explained in an official statement. "I drew on events from my own childhood and adolescence, but was excited to see the story take on its own life. This book would have been very helpful for me growing up and now that I have a teenage son, it is my goal that this will have a positive influence on all teenagers." Um, didn’t this guy basically build his entire career based on bullying other rappers? Mind. Blown. [MTV]

Smoking Cigarettes Just Got a Whole Lot More Disturbing

If you’re one of the increasingly smaller number of Americans who likes to light up, you’re about to get another wake-up call. In a move anticipated for several years now, the FDA has issued a new series of graphic warnings that will be placed upon all cigarette packaging by September 2012. Similar to warnings already in place throughout many other countries, the messaging is a lot more straightforward (and scary) than the old “Smoking Cigarettes May Be Bad for Your Health” messages we’ve all taken for granted. It is the first significant change to cigarette labeling regulations in the past 25 years. []
